Ho. Ly. CRAP!

Yes, it’s been a while… again. Let’s just say that job hunting sucks. Really sucks. And it’s summer, gimme and break.

I went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last night. I spent the entire day gearing myself up for it along with my sister. We bought shirts the day before and were sure to smuggle in our own snacks knowing that the concessions would take forever and cost way too much.

I’ll just say that I love midnight showings of movies like Harry Potter. Everyone in the theater is all excited and there for the same reasons. People are dressed up and cheer like crazy when the movie comes on. It’s infectious and you find yourself smiling and laughing even when you didn’t think you necessarily would be.

The movie itself was good, really good. There were quite a few deviations from the book and I’ll definitely need to see it again in order to form a more solid opinion. There were things I didn’t like at all and others that I absolutely loved (*cough* the Felix potion scene *cough*). I know that it can’t follow the book exactly, so you kind of have to look at it as its own entity. I will say that those who didn’t read the book first or haven’t read it in a while will have far fewer negative things to say about the movie. But even I admit that it was pretty darn awesome regardless.

I’ve been wondering a little what the world is going to do when the Harry Potter movies are finished completely. There will be no more anticipation, no more lines and camp-outs. It started with the books and then the movies came along, prolonging everything. What are people going to do with themselves when it’s all said and done? I know, I know… people have lives. But something as wonderful and fantastic as the whole Harry Potter thing doesn’t come along often. I don’t know if Star Wars or Star Trek was even in quite the same ballpark. I’m inclined to think not.

But now all there is to do is to await the next movie, which will be part one of two pertaining to the final book. And you can bet your head I’ll be there for the midnight showing if at all possible.

So. Freaking. Excited.

(The really really good, long official trailer is embedding disabled… dammit.  You can see it here.)

And Emma Watson has turned into quite a girl.  This was from before the fifth movie.

I’ve got my tickets and I CANNOT WAIT!!!

Slack city

I know I know, I’ve been slacking.  Silly me thinking that summer was a time to relax and kick back to read what I want to read for a change.

I’m currently in Flint, MI for my internship program.  It’s running this week and it’s going to be a looooong week.  3-4 hours or so of travel alone each day then spending all day with a bunch of high school students.  Oy.  At least the group seems to be pretty well behaved this time around.  Check out the program at www.emich.edu/writelink.

And because of my internship, I’m also missing out on seeing some very out-of-town relatives that I haven’t seen in ages.  There’s people coming from Florida and California to my house and who knows when or if I will see some of them again.  One of the visitors is my great aunt.  But I guess sacrifices must be made in order to make connections and network, which is critical in this day and age for finding a job.  A girl who’s desperate to find a real job and get outta serving drinks has to do what she has to do I guess.

On a separate note, I’ve got a question.  Does anyone else HATE IT when you are forced to step away from a book right in the middle of the climax?  I’ve been rereading the Harry Potter books for the third or fourth time now, and I just had to leave it right at the end of the last book where it really gets going.  I’ve found myself irritated all morning that I can’t pick it up again until much later tonight.

I will do my best to get back to posting much more frequently.  This internship has just taken up a TON on time making phonecalls and such.
